Woe unto you, hypocrites!

The news has been abuzz about political cartoons depecting the Prophet Mohammad with a bomb on his turban. Muslims are furious, but the Christian media appears perfectly happy to reprint the cartoons, knowing they are offensive. When taken to task they merely cite the privileges of a free press. Well. These are the same people who got the Book of Daniel cancelled, and are gunning for Will & Grace, Queer Eye, and even Spongebob--all because they do not fall within the guidelines of Christian values. Free press indeed! The irony makes my head hurt.

It is sad. I guess every group or category, no matter how it is grouped or categorized, will inevitably have some people like this. Unfortunately, it they always are the loudest of the bunch. Cheers to all the ones in the middle who get along with everyone, who celebrate friendship and ignore differences. (or even celebrate the differences too, God forbid!) :-)

Aren't you making assumptions by lumping all together? Aren't we being asked not to lump all Muslems together? I too would be pissed if Muslems made a cartoon of Jesus, but I wouldn't burn or kill over it. I do agree, the cartoon was over the line.

Another Anon,
Could you be so kind as to identify the assumption to which you refer? And keep things in perspective: 99.9% of the world's 'muslems'[SIC] wouldn't and didn't burn or kill over it either. Those who did were just as wrong as those christians who killed for beer and cigarettes:

or for peeling turnips: (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/841180/posts).

or killing 31,900 people for what that one guy in Afghanistan did: (http://www.iraqbodycount.net/index.php?PHPSESSID=a853dd282884e06977bc9a89bc1073cb&submit3=Enter+Site)

I agree with you 100%.

Clearly making bad choices is a human trait, not a Christian or Muslim one. There are always extremists. Sure the violence is bad. Sure it's stupid to say "The Prophet does not condone violence! I will kill you for your libel!" And as Yusuf pointed out, the vast majority of Muslims haven't done that.

And not everyone in the Christian Press is gleefully pubishing the cartoons. Only a few are. And those are the subject of my post.

I absolutely despise the Religious Right, you don't even want to get me started.

I often wonder if our presence in the Mid East is more about making it possible to get missionaries over there than about oil.
